Sunday 13th December 2020

God planned the birth of Jesus for a long time before it happened – and that included sending an angel to Mary 9 months before Jesus was born, to tell her that she had been chosen to be the mother of the Saviour of the World.

She was confused and a little scared, as we might expect - but still agreed to do as God wanted. She wasn’t anyone special, rich or famous, just an ordinary girl like us. She didn’t have special religious training – but she was willing to do God’s will.

Are we just as willing as Mary to be part of God’s plan to put everything right in the world?

Today’s bible verse reminds us that Mary was willing to do what God asked of her:

Luke 1 vs. 38

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me come true.”

Then the angel left her.

Prayer

Dear Lord, as we start to think about Christmas again this year, help us to remember the baby whose birth is at the heart of the Christmas story.

Thank you that Mary and Joseph were willing to play their part in God’s epic plan, by becoming the parents of the very special baby Jesus.

Help us to also be willing to do what God asks of us, so that we can help Him complete the plan that Jesus started to put an end to sin & suffering. Amen
